Gopher Fumigation Machine

Easy pocket gopher control without bait.

Gopher General is a patented, tractor-pulled machine that meters a slow-release fumigant into a sealed underground tunnel in a single pass — no hand-trapping, no guessing whether it worked. Built for alfalfa, hay, pasture, and rangeland operations across the US and Canada.

Gopher Fumigation Process

How the Gopher General works:

The Gopher General delivers the fumigant right to the gopher — and keeps the operator out of harm's way.

  • The disk cuts in first.

A 20-inch disk drops into the ground ahead of everything else, cutting a clean slot and keeping roots and field debris from wrapping around the working parts behind it.

  • The shank and torpedo run at working depth.

Right behind the disk, the shank and torpedo hold a steady 10 to 12 inches down, deep enough to target the gopher’s feeding tunnels and its food storage and living burrows.

  • Fumigant meters in as you go.

An air-induction system doses the fumigant through the shank and out the torpedo, but only once it's at full working depth. Nothing lands on the surface, and there's no open bottom for mud or trash to plug.

  • Packer wheels seal it shut.

Two angled, pneumatic packer wheels close the slit behind the machine, sealing the fumigant into the tunnel where it works.

Rocky field? No problem.

The Gopher General's hydraulic accumulator lets the disk lift up to 14 inches and the shank pivot back and up to 18 inches to clear it. Everything drops back to working depth automatically. No shear pins, no stopping to reset a trip.

The First Few Days

What to expect after gopher fumigation treatment

Day of treatment

The machine forms the tunnel and meters the fumigant in a single pass. Soil needs to be at least 45°F / 7°C with a bit of moisture for the gas to work.

By day four

The fumigant works fast. New digging should have come to an end. If there is fresh digging, tighten up the distance between the passes, and go a bit slower.

Ongoing maintenance

Patrol the field each spring and fall for new activity, especially along field boundaries.
